DocWest looks to explore the world of our people, our politics, our societies, our history and ourselves through the lens of filmmakers from around the globe. We embrace the idea that cinematic truth revealed in a non-narrative manner can allow the filmmaker to make choices that presents life either surreptitiously or purposely based on the choices they make.
With the ability to more easily capture subjects and events of the world through less expensive forms of production, documentary filmmaking has become an art form whereby the many voices of diverse peoples from around the planet can be heard. DocuWest’s objective is to present our audiences with stories that are not only astonishing and jarring, but awe-inspiring and thought-provoking; stories that enable dialogue and discourse to take place over the people, events or subjects presented in each film.
Docuwest is produced by the Foothills Art Center and Artful Journey School of Fine and Visual Arts. This year, we are proud to also be co-produced through a partnership with the Denver Art Museum, DAM Contemporaries. The Foothills Art Center has been presenting art, film and
events to the community for over 40 years. Artful Journey has been teaching fine and visual art for over 16 years. While the Denver Art Museum has been existence since 1890 and today the
356,000-square-foot museum complex includes collection
gallery space, three temporary exhibition venues, and the Lewis I. Sharp
Auditorium. DAM Contemporaries was founded in 1978 to promote the appreciation,
enjoyment, and acquisition of contemporary art. Programs include
evenings with artists represented in the collection and an opportunities
to meet artists, collectors, critics, and other visitors.
DocuWest is held simultaneously in the beautiful cities of Golden and
Denver, Colorado. Screenings take place in the historic Foothills Art
Center and Foss Auditorium in downtown Golden and this year, we'll kick-off the festival with a special fundraising event at the Denver Art Museum's Sharp Auditorium.
With the Fest located close to the heart of downtown Golden and Denver,
filmmakers and attendees will be able to explore the beauty of what
these cities have to offer. In Golden, filmmakers and attendees can
easily walk around a vibrant main street in a western setting picture
perfect for discussing the films shown during the course of the
festival. In Denver, the city is alive with music, food and nightlife
that is as hip as it is diverse. We look forward to receiving your
submission to DocuWest.
