DocWest looks to explore the world of our people, our politics, our societies, our history and ourselves through the lens of filmmakers from around the globe. We embrace the idea that cinematic truth revealed in a non-narrative manner can allow the filmmaker to make choices that presents life either surreptitiously or purposely based on the choices they make.
With the ability to more easily capture subjects and events of the world through less expensive forms of production, documentary filmmaking has become an art form whereby the many voices of diverse peoples from around the planet can be heard. DocuWest's objective is to present our audiences with stories that are not only astonishing and jarring, but awe-inspiring and thought-provoking; stories that enable dialogue and discourse to take place over the people, events or subjects presented in each film.
Docuwest is produced by the Foothills Art Center and Artful Journey School of Fine and Visual Arts. The Foothills Art Center has been presenting art, film and events to the community for over 40 years and DocuWest is considered part of this organization's exhibition schedule. Artful Journey has been teaching fine and visual art for over 17 years and is proud to be able to help present the festival.
DocuWest is centered in the beautiful city of Golden, Colorado. Screenings take place in the historic Foothills Art Center and Foss Auditorium in downtown Golden. The festival is also excited to announce additional screenings at The Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder and the Studio Loft screening room at the Elle Caulkins opera house in Denver.
With the Fest located in the heart of downtown Golden filmmakers and attendees will be able to explore the beauty of what the city has to offer. In Golden, filmmakers and attendees can easily walk around a vibrant main street in a western setting picture perfect for discussing the films shown during the course of the festival.
